It’s one thing to be looked at, and another thing to be seen

Open Water is a new drama based on Caleb Azumah Nelson’s multi award-winning debut novel of the same name.
The story follows Marcus, who works in retail while pursuing photography, and Effie, a dance student at university in Dublin. From the moment they meet, their connection is instant and undeniable. But Marcus soon discovers that Effie is in a relationship with his friend Samuel — a boundary he refuses to cross. As they collaborate on a project documenting Black creatives in London, they are continually drawn into each other’s lives. The question is: can their growing friendship withstand the intensity of their desire?
Though they seem destined for one another, and their crush deepens into an ocean‑wide love, the path between them is far from simple. Love alone may not be enough. In the vast emotional waters between them, will they sink or swim?
The eight-part series features Caleb Azumah Nelson as lead writer, director, and executive producer.
